Supported by Bharatiya Mandir, the Sakhi group aims to provide a platform for women of all ages to connect, share their experiences, help each other in settling into their new surroundings and provide the support to those in need. The group organises events and programs throughout the year to promote the well-being and development of ladies in the community.

Recently, the group held a successful Bollywood lunch on April 30th at the Chilli Pepper Restaurant that was attended by 75 ladies. The event was a tremendous success and provided an excellent opportunity for ladies to network, connect with each other and engage in activities such as dance performance, music, games, Bollywood Tambola, and sumptuous lunch. The dedicated and passionate volunteers, Priya Ramarakhiani, Neelu Ghai, Amita Bansal, Sunitha Itla and Nirzari Jani helped the admins organise the event.

Jyoti Parashar, who is also a registered social worker, expressed her satisfaction in being able to help and support ladies through the group. She stated, “it gives me immense pleasure to see women connecting with each other, sharing their stories, and support each other through the challenges they face in their daily lives. The group aims to support migrant ladies to settle in the new country and connect with other ladies who have similar experiences. The event provided an opportunity for the ladies to share their experiences challenges and successes, which can be a significant source of encouragement for those who are struggling.”

The Sakhi group is doing an outstanding job in bringing ladies together and fostering a sense of community among them. The Sakhi group’s efforts are commendable, and their impact is evident in the lives of the ladies they support.

One of the Sakhi admins, Lavanya Komalagiri, expressed her pleasure at the success of the event. She said, “it was wonderful to see the happy faces of the ladies who attended the event. Our goal is to create a supportive community of women who can come together to share their experiences, support each other, and empower each other to reach their full potential.”

Another admin, Smriti Saini stated, “I personally believe women supporting women and women empowerment are vital aspects of fostering a more inclusive and equitable society. Bharatiya Mandir supported us in providing a platform to form ‘Sakhi’ where women get an opportunity to speak and get heard. Her voice is respected. It was fun putting together our recent event which was a huge success as we achieved what we aimed for that is – personal connections with new members, cheering each other’s accomplishments, celebrating sisterhood, and overall building a fertile environment of trust and support.

Besides organising events, the Sakhi group also offers support and advice on settling into a new country, job search, promoting small businesses and connecting with other community members. The group’s efforts are commendable, and their impact is evident in the lives of the women they support.

The Sakhi group is a shining example of what can be achieved when like-minded individuals come together to support a cause. Their efforts are making a difference in the lives of women in Auckland, and their impact is sure to be felt for many years to come. We commend the group for their outstanding work and encourage others to support their efforts in any way they can.

If you are a woman in Auckland looking for a supportive community, we encourage you to check out the Sakhi group and their upcoming events. For more information on Sakhi group, please contact Jyoti Parashar @ 0212082915
