Sooryavanshi is the fourth instalment of the Indian cop movies franchise incorporated by Rohit Shetty.
Singham being the starting point in 2011, followed with Singham Returns (2014), Simba (2018) and now Sooryavanshi. The hype about this movie got everyone back to theatres not only in India but around the globe. It is undeniable that this release, even with unrealistic stunts, flying cars and helicopters, was equally loved by audience.
Shetty’s plots on a whole are on topics related to police and their nationalistic character, this is something every Indian loves idolizing, perhaps thanks to the reality which is far beyond than what is portrayed on sliver screen. To add to this, he has his star cast that are equally passionate about such subject matters. It is not hidden that Akshay Kumar is the torch bearer of Indian nationalist movies in Bollywood like Holiday, Baby, Rustom to name a few.
Sooryavanshi jumps right into its main topic as the film begins with 1993 Mumbai blasts, the character DCP and ATS chief Veer “Surya” Sooryavanshi (Akshay Kumar) is seen losing his parents in this terror act. The plot is predictable, you know there is going to be action, shooting, bombing, killing with names like Lahkar-e-tayba (terrorist organization) and RDX.
The reality of sleeper cell network consisting terrorist that are trained and radicalised in the name of religion to kill innocent people is shown, this can be proved by looking into the history of the various terrorist attack already happened in India till date. The movie plot however hovers around the fact that 40 such terrorist have been sent to India to conduct attacks as and when singled by Lashkar chef stationed in India or someone sitting across the border, mostly in Pakistan. And then the importance of Anti-Terrorism Squad team is highlighted who like Surya have to sacrifice everything on personal and professional level to save the country.
Katrina Kaif plays the character of Surya’s wife and the mother of his child, portraying ATS chief’s personal life which gets compromised while chasing terrorists. The couple are seen almost losing their only child Aryan, thus making Dr. Ria (Kaif) separate from Surya. Not only this we also see how other characters who play important role in Surya’s team losing their life because of terrorist activities.
We see the chase from Mumbai to Bangkok, from Jaisalmer to Shivgadh only to get down to the suspicious assumptions of the ATS regarding the terrorist cell Lashkar and to find out where was 600 kilograms of RDX hidden in India for these terrorists to carry out bombing in some major cities in India.
Something that is purely entertaining is when Singham and Simba join Surya to eliminate these terrorists showing the power of united forces of the country that stand for India above anything else. Simba (Ranveer Singh) is the real humor of the film, he makes you laugh even in the tensed scene while Singham (Ajay Devgan) is the real hero, reminding us that it all started with him and ends with Singham, leaving us with a hint that he would be coming in next blockbuster of Rohit Shetty. -Vritti Parasher
