“It is important to be yourself, don’t change for someone or anything,” says Cecilia Kang Courture in conversation with The Indian News NZ along with Vin Tomar, actor, model and a prominent face in the Kiwi-Indian community.

Cecilia Kang, Kiwi-Korean designer and trans woman is not only in collaboration with natural skincare brand, Nellie Tier for her upcoming fashion show at New Zealand Fashion Week 2021, but also joins hands with Vin Tomar to empower more people where their aim is to promote diverse migrant communities like the Kiwi-Indian community.

Kang believes that putting up this disruptive harmony between animal and New Zealand nature, Ani-nature designs show won’t have been possible without the support from different ethnic groups.

The pieces presented in the fashion show are more of art pieces and are one-off creations, not for sale in the market but can be rented for your special occasion. However, after the show Cecilia is planning to bring garments that are more sellable and ready to wear for different sizes for all women.

“I also have a beautiful Indian model walking for our show, it will be quite a diverse range of models as well”

On the other hand, Kang recognises that there are no shortcuts, it is the hard work that pays off ultimately. She also emphasizes the fact that there are always people who will support your hard work and contribute to your journey. With this giving back to the community mindset, this gorgeous designer is ready to help in any way possible to the aspirants who see themselves making big just like her in the fashion industry.

“As a teacher what I learn in New Zealand that there is white privilege with a migrant lack of opportunities, so that’s where I join hands with Cecilia how we can not only promote her but also she will serve as a role model for Kiwi-Indian community not only for one particular gender, not only for Yonge people but also for seniors.” adds Vin, who is drafting an event for Diwali where they might want to do a short fashion show with Cecilia Kang.

The team are designing on how they can be more supportive to the community and connect people, weather if someone wants to get internship experience, for few hours or weeks can be adjusted or if anyone is looking for bigger level of event through Cecilia, making sure that their philosophy is in line with Cecilia Kang is prime.

“I also have a beautiful Indian model walking for our show, it will be quite a diverse range of models as well” cites the excited designer.

“We are happy to get feedback or suggestion from people, at the moment is at preliminary stage, we are available, if you have interest in fashion, if there is lack of information or opportunities, so we will see what can be done. This is more like a community work and free of cost, everyone deserves an opportunity especially in these covid times where people are mostly sitting or away from work and they are looking for different prospect in life” concludes Vin and Cecilia.
