An Indian origin man in Auckland has been charged for threatening to kill a Sikh youth and cause harm to the local Sikh community.

The cyber bulling and hate started on the Facebook group “Indians in New Zealand” where personal details like photos and mobile number of the Sikh youth was shared in the Facebook group.

This individual was referred to as a “Khalistani terrorist” in the ongoing social media hate campaign. And the accused, in his comments in the Facebook group had threatened that he would reach the Sikh youth’s house to teach him a lesson.

This incident has stemmed from the framers protest that has been on-going in India and has caused tension in the Indian community in New Zealand and also across the world.

The police had not only arrested the accused but have also charged the 36-year-old man in relation to threatening to kill, charges of causing harm by posting on digital communications platform and spreading hate.

Auckland police may also investigate the role of some other Indians in association to the incident. The man accused first appeared in the Auckland District Court on March 19 and is due to appear on the June 2. – TIN Bureau
