New Zealand Tamil Society Inc. hosted a dinner to welcome two newly elected ethnic MPs and Minister Priyanca Radhakrishnan and Ms Vanushi Walters, a Tamil of Sri Lankan descent and also Mr Michael Wood, minister of Transport & Workplace relations and Safety on Sunday 6th December, at the Mt Eden War Memorial hall at dominion road in Mt Eden, Auckland. Ms Priyanca could not attend the event due to a last-minute urgent commitment come up and sent her best wishes for the programme.
The New Zealand Tamil Society Inc. was founded way back in 1983 by Dr Rasalingam, Dr Rasanathan, Dr Vaidyanathan, Dr Sivakumar and Dr Tharmabalan, with an aim to help Tamil people affected by the ethnic riots in Sri Lanka and attempting to find a political solution. The Society has been running several social activities and annual sports event for young and old for last 36 years apart from encouraging and promoting Tamil culture in New Zealand. The programme started with traditional lighting of lamp and welcoming the guests which was followed by some excellent cultural dance performances.
