Last week, Kiwi-Indian MP and first-time Parliamentarian Priyanca Radhakrishnan was confirmed as the ruling Labour Party’s candidate for Maungakiekie in Auckland.

A member of Asia New Zealand Foundation Leadership Network, National Council of Women (Auckland) and UN Women, this will be the second time Radhakrishnan will be contesting from the electorate.

Notably, she narrowly lost to National Party’s Denise Lee in 2017, after polling 12,906 votes in comparison to Lee’s 15,063 votes. Green Party’s List MP Chloe Swarbrick had secured 4,060 votes then.

Importantly, Radhakrishnan did won the party vote though, with Labour securing 15,484 votes, against National’s 14,542, signaling a tough fight this time as well.
