Roshan Nauhria, Managing Director of Nauhria Group of Companies, is well known in New Zealand for lending support to several charities, as well as his involvement in social and community work. Something he has done over the past several decades.

While he is one of the founding members of Balmoral Road-located  Bharatiya Mandir, he had also been the vice-president of Hare Krishna Mandir (ISCKON) in Auckland. Even these days, he actively supports and is personally involved in various community works, despite his busy schedule.

But not the one to forget his roots, Nauhria, who moved to New Zealand over 49 years back, has recently taken up a major role in helping the people in need, in his home-town in Dharamkot near Moga city, in the north Indian state of Punjab.

With India under national lock-down as well, much like New Zealand, people have struggled to access essential food items, due to unavailability and loss of incomes.

Realising this, Nauhria is supporting around 80 people in his native village, majority of whom are widows, who are given groceries and other essential food items worth INR 1,000-1,500. Additionally, fresh vegetables are also distributed twice every week.

Moreover, he is also supporting the community kitchen – langar – of a local gurudwara for the last two weeks. Here, with assistance from the local municipality and its leadership under Inderpreet Singh, food is being delivered to over 1,000 people at their homes, making sure no one goes without food in such circumstances.

In all, Nauhria has contributed over INR 100,000 to help people in his native village with essential items during this unprecedented crisis.

Meanwhile, locals are all praise for his efforts.

Local public representative – member of state legislative assembly – Vidhayak Lohgarh, noted, “Certain people like Roshan Lal Nauhria are born to help people no matter where they stay in this world. They always make their birth place proud by their deeds.”

“The people of Dharamkot, public representatives, and all government officials are grateful to Mr Roshan Nauhria for helping our area. We wish him continued success in life. May God bless him and his family,“ said another official.
