In a path-breaking story for Indians in New Zealand, and around the world, New Zealand international, Sarpreet Singh, became the first player of Indian descent to play in German league, Bundesliga, when he replaced the Philippe Coutinho, in the final eight minutes of Bayern Munich’s match against Werder Bremen on Saturday.

Munich won the match 6-1. Early this month, Sarpreet Singh, who has been among the reserve players at the German football giant Bayern Munich till now, had been promoted to train with the club’s first team until the winter break. Notably, Singh is the second New Zealander to play in the German league after Wynton Rufer, who played between 1989 and 1997. In his Facebook post, Singh himself expressed his pleasure adding, “Dream come true to make my Bundesliga debut for this great club!”
