About Guru Nanak’s Free Kitchen
The Guru Nanak’s Free Kitchen, concept was developed in April 2017, when a group of like minded individuals got together to help feed those in need, as well as encourage Sikh youth and organizations to volunteer their time and services. Subsequent events have been planned every month, with langars happening outside the Central City Library on the last Saturday of every month. Following the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev, the Free Kitchen follows the philosophy of selfless sewa [service]. It says, “For the Sikh community, this project is not missionary in nature, instead it is an opportunity for us to extend this true Sikh spirit of helping those in need regardless of caste, colour, creed, and economic status.”
Those willing to help with monetary donations, blankets, sleeping bags, or volunteer their time, can check their Facebook page for details at @GuruNanaksfreekitchenAkl.
